ABC Hosts Silent Auction, raises $3500 to support Cindy’s Gofundme

It was an awesome month last month for Atlanta Bread at Peachtree Corners! We sponsored a Silent Auction for Cindy Martinez, one of our community members that unfortunately came down with a sudden flesh eating bacteria earlier this summer. The bacteria has medically caused a lot of surgeries and has amputated bot Cindy’s feet and one of her hands- something that has been quite the experience for Cindy, her husband David who is a Gwinnett cop, and her 2 children. As you can probably imagine the bills have been a lot to take on and the family has to change the interior structure of their house to make it livable for Cindy when she gets home. (Note, she JUST got out of ICU this week 🙂
The family has started a gofundme account to help them with the financial strains from these changes. To help them, we at ABC hosted a Silent Auction, with the help of UPCCA, at our store on August 30th. It was a wine tasting and food pairing event, with several local vendors sponsoring their products for the silent auction.
We had 58 people attend the wine tasting, with 22 silent auction items. It is so great to see a community come together to do something like this because between the silent auction, attendance fee and private donations we raised about $3,500 for Cindy!! With a contribution from the UPCCA, the total amount raised was $4,240 of which $2,705 was raised from the Silent Auction, the other amounts were 50% of the admission charge to the food and wine pairing and from private donations.  David and his father, William, attended the event and spoke about her condition, the steps to come, and the positive frame of mind that Cindy currently possesses through this trying time in her life. Thanks to all of you who participated in the event, and to the businesses who willingly offered their products as silent auction items. Love our community!!! GO peachtree corners, you guys rock!!
